The Brief:
To create a modern garden with a couple of seating areas to both eat and entertain. The garden was to have plenty of colour but with winter interest. A reading area was to be incorporated to get away from the hustle and bustle of modern life.
The Garden:
The garden was primarily designed to accentuate the long yet narrow nature of the space. A single pathway set with linear stone paving was placed down one side of the garden directly opposite a small seating area and patio doors. This draws the eye down the garden from the house which in turn leads to a stone bird bath and specimen Acer. A seating area for entertaining was incorporated to the rear of the garden with surrounding wall which acts as a mental barrier around the rest of the space. This also created a space for extra seating if a large party was being catered for. Half way down the garden is a Southern Yellow Pine slatted screen to create a private area for one person to read, complete with a personal water feature.
