English holly / Ilex aquifolium Hedging

English Holly will always be assocciated with the Roman ferstival of Saturnalia but more obviously Christmas , if is a great plant for hedge screening and sculptural specimens. It is native to western and southern Europe, northwest Africa and southwest Asia.

Ilex aquifolium was traditionally used to make Scottish bagpipes before tropical timber replaced traditionally used timber.

  • Holly will always be synonymous with Christmas, the foliage has benefits way beyond the relms of this period. Holly makes a good screening hedge as well as architectural specimens when grown individually. Holly is dioecious, meaning that male and female flowers occur on different trees.

    Younger leaves are spiky but older leaves tend to be more smooth in nature. Holly fruit are ornamental
